Technology
FRAME
Rift Zone EL models are built around our Series 4 aluminum frames, with detailed forgings, highly manipulated tubes and full internal cable routing, giving riders the highest-end alloy frame that Marin offers. 29” wheels roll at both ends of all three models in the Rift Zone EL collection.
MULTITRAC SUSPENSION
It wouldn’t be a Rifty without our much-heralded MultiTrac suspension that pairs an ideal leverage curve with a custom shock tune. The resulting 140mm of travel balances pedal efficiency and the ability to float over rocks and roots while delivering confidence-inspiring chassis control.
ADJUSTABLE HEADTUBE ANGLE
The headtube angles on the Rift Zone EL models can be fine-tuned via the proprietary headset cups and inserts, allowing for approximately +/- 0.50° of adjustability beyond the stock 65° headtube angle to best suit your riding style and local trails.
DRIVE UNIT
Packing 55Nm torque and up to 600W of power in a lightweight 4.4lbs/2kg drive unit, Bosch’s Performance Line CX drive unit delivers a silent riding experience with no motor noise and no drag at speed, for a very natural feeling power delivery.
BATTERY
The Bosch CompactTube 400Wh battery delivers from 15-55 miles (25-90km) of range (based on rider weight, terrain, climate and level of assist used) and fully charges in about six hours using the included 2A charger. It’s securely mounted in the downtube and is removable using common tools.
CONTROLLERS
Bosch’s system controller is conveniently located on the top tube and includes the power switch and an LED-based mode/battery level indicator.
The wireless mini remote is within reach of the rider’s left thumb and controls the power assist mode, allowing the rider to make quick adjustments on the fly.
PROTECTION
Made from a 30% fiberglass-infused nylon, similar to what is used on safety and football helmets, the moto-inspired integrated downtube guard helps deflect errant rocks, logs, or anything else riders may encounter on the trail. This guard also includes drain ports to let moisture flow from the frame.
Chainstays and seatstays are protected with durable rubber guards that minimize noise and protect paint finishes. Cable ports are of an all-new design and keep the frame innards sealed. These ports use rubber membranes punctured during initial assembly and seal around the housing or hose once inserted.
EXTRAS
Bosch’s PowerMore range extending battery can be added to the downtube of Rift Zone EL models, giving the riders an additional 250Wh of power in a form factor not much larger than a water bottle. Available at extra cost from authorized Bosch ebike retailer.
Suspension Setup
REAR SHOCK SETUP
Recommended Sag = 30%/19.5mm
Step 1: Set correct pressure in rear shock.
Step 2: Sit on the bike and cycle the suspension (*with correct riding gear).
Step 3: Reset O-ring and sit on the bike, DO NOT BOUNCE, carefully step off.
Step 4: Measure sag (from o-ring to seal of shock), If it does not match the bike’s recommended sag in millimeters repeat process.
Step 5: Adjust rebound setting to ensure proper control.
FORK SETUP
Marin recommends that all bikes front and rear suspension feel balanced
Step 1: After rear sag is set follow the recommended pressure from the fork manufacturer.
Step 2: Bounce evenly up and down on the bike, cycling the suspension up and down to make sure both front and rear suspension feel balanced, if the front does not match the rear add or release pressure.
Step 3: Once the bike feels balanced adjust the rebound damping to ensure proper control.

Reviews
It feels much more like a nimble, non-motorized bike overall with its lighter weight and less torque.
'Made for Fun' is Marin’s slogan, and one may argue that their Rift Zone line is the ultimate embodiment of this philosophy.
This is the first e-mtb I've spent significant time on that I would actually want to add to my current rotation of bikes. I love alloy and a horst link suspension platform, so this bike played to my bias a bit. All that aside, I’m impressed with what Marin has done with their foray into the lightweight e-MTB market. If you are currently shopping for a lightweight e-MTB, the Rift Zone EL deserves serious consideration.
If you’re a fan of alloy and want a solid, upgrade-worthy platform for long-term use, the new Marin Rift Zone EL is worth a look.
Marin has done a good job with the Rift Zone E Light of delivering decent trail efficiency with capable downhill performance.
The Rift Zone EL has some of the best suspension I’ve ridden on an SL e-bike.
(A) lightweight e-trail bike with a desire for airtime.
A platform that's both maneuverable and playful.
