Marin Mountain Bikes Inc. has added a new platform and three models to the Rift Zone E collection. The all-new Rift Zone EL (“Electric Light”) trail eMTBs take the award-winning Rift Zone formula and repurposes it into bikes that share the capability as the full-powered versions, but in lighter-weight packages. Made possible in part by Bosch’s new lightweight Performance Line SX drive unit and CompactTube internal battery, the Rift Zone EL models deliver a decidedly playful and natural feeling ebike ride, which is perfect for those who don’t require the full range and power output of more traditional eMTBs. All three models are well-equipped with performance-focused components from top-tier supplier partners such as Fox, SRAM, Shimano, TRP and more.

GEOMETRY

The well-loved and critically acclaimed geometry from the non-e Riftys is the foundation of the Rift Zone EL, but with the added adjustability that new technology affords. Headtube angles on Rift Zone EL models can be fine-tuned via the proprietary headset cups and inserts, allowing for approximately +/- 0.50° of adjustability beyond the stock 65° headtube angle to best suit your riding style and local trails.

Packing 55Nm torque and up to 600W of power in a lightweight 4.4lbs/2kg drive unit, Bosch’s Performance Line SX drive unit delivers a silent riding experience with no motor noise and no drag at speed, for a very natural feeling power delivery.

The Bosch CompactTube 400Wh battery delivers from 15-55 miles (25-90km) of range based on rider weight, terrain, climate and level of assist used and fully charges in about six hours using the included 2A charger. It’s rattle-free and securely mounted within the downtube and, if needed, is removable using common tools.

Bosch’s system controller is conveniently located on the top tube and includes the power switch and an LED-based mode/battery level indicator.

The wireless mini remote is within reach of the rider’s left thumb and controls the power assist mode, allowing the rider to make quick adjustments on the fly.

Made from a 30% fiberglass-infused nylon, similar to what is used on safety and football helmets, the moto-inspired integrated downtube guard helps deflect errant rocks, logs, or anything else riders may encounter on the trail. This guard also includes drain ports to let moisture flow from the frame.

Chainstays and seatstays are protected with durable rubber guards that minimize noise and protect paint finishes. Cable ports are of an all-new design and keep the frame innards sealed. These ports use rubber membranes punctured during initial assembly and seal around the housing or hose once inserted.
