Meet Philipp

• Who is Philipp Gatterer? I’d say filmmaker & athlete. Most people probably know me from YouTube, but only a few know my backstory—I actually had nothing to do with biking for a long time. Why? Because no one ever really introduced me to it. That changed when I was 21, and following the motto "better late than never," I took a sideways entry into the sport and laid the foundation for my YouTube channel.
• MUST HAVE MTB ACCESSORIES FOR A RIDE? I usually can’t help with food, tools, or spare parts, but the chances of a GoPro hiding in my hip bag are pretty high. Maybe I should rethink that 😅.
• WHAT WOULD YOUR LUXURY ITEM BE ON A DESERT ISLAND? Probably my closest bike friends, but if they’re not available, then my cat.
• WHAT BIKE FRAME SIZES DO YOU RIDE? M/L, I’m 181 cm tall.
• WHAT`S THE BEST ADVICE ON BIKING YOU´VE EVER RECEIVED? Stop whining! If there’s one thing I complain about, it’s pedaling. But my friends don’t let that slide for long. Complaining doesn’t help, and if no one whines, suddenly it doesn’t feel as hard, and it actually turns into fun.
• FAVORITE PLACE TO RIDE BIKE? Wow, that’s a tough one! I don’t have an all-time favorite. I always love riding somewhere I’ve never been before because everything feels new, exciting, and refreshing. I’ve ridden in some well-known places in Canada, Spain & Italy, but I’d say we have some damn good spots here in Austria too!
• WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO RIDE? The way you can conquer a mountain on two wheels and the freedom that comes with it. Every new bike park brings new challenges, different building styles, and unique landscapes.
• WHAT´S YOUR GO TO FOOD / DRINK AFTER A RIDE? Super simple: the classic parking lot beer. Especially when I’m out on a tour rather than in a bike park, there’s nothing better than enjoying a well-earned beer at some deserted parking spot—with the people who just went through the exact same experience.
• HOW DID YOU GET SPONSORED / GET INTO MARIN? I’d say the Glemmride Festival 2024 in Saalbach is to blame 😅. We were sheltering from pouring rain in the Marin tent, and people kept coming up to take pictures with me. Maybe that left an impression—who knows…
